Ahh prefall. A term I didn’t hear quite much until I started working in fashion. When mornings are crisp, but the midday sun brings the delicious last remnants of summer. When the last few humid days stick on by but the beauty of fall is on its way. The combination of my two favorite seasons. When you can dress for fall and summer by combining the best of both wardrobes while keeping those winter coats locked in the closet a little while longer. So without further ado, here is my prefall edit. Not a trend guide, but more so a compilation of what I’m excited to see more of and wear myself. To me, prefall fashion is all about taking your favorite elements of summer dressing and incorporating them into cooler weather outfits. Think more layering, cozier textures, and moodier pops of color and pattern. don’t retire the white just yet! While white after Labor Day is a controversial subject, I think the power of an all white look can’t go unnoticed regardless of our place in the year. While my summer go to was a white tank top and jeans I think my prefall might be white jeans paired with fun long sleeves. Think baseball tees, layered and loose white long sleeves, or lacey long tops. baseball tee, layered long sleeve, lace top ibiza summer -> ibiza fall! while a little residency on the island is on everyone’s summer wishlist, we can all channel our inner ibiza girl chic into our fall wardrobes in a tasteful way. Add a fun clutch, put some Rufus du sol on and you’re golden. crochet skull cap, scarf add (longer) fringe! The western motifs that make up a lot of festival outfit inspo we see at Coachella and Lollapalooza can bring that perfect grounded base to a prefall outfit while keeping the carefree air of summer. Think fringe in longer forms like suede maxi skirts, bags, shirt jackets. geel tassel skirt, maje fringe bag keep it sheer! While it might not always be cool enough to rock a heavier long sleeve, this is the perfect time to pull out the sheer transitional pieces that only really have a few weeks out of the year to shine. Layering them together or with colorful under layers give that perfect light and wispy air of summer while still keeping you comfortable for unpredictable range of prefall temps. sheer skirt, intimissimi top bring out SOME knits! Crisp prefall mornings and nights might have you thinking it’s time for the big jackets but before we take drastic measures, turn to the smaller winter accessories. Think leg warmers with kitten heels & mini skirts, fuzzy scarves & tank tops, cozy hats & t-shirts. Turn the pieces usually worn out of necessity into pieces worn for the fun of it (and slight warmth). leg warmers, & dolce vita winter accessories coming soon… light outfits + dark accessories! Before our scenery goes full swing red/orange/brown, tinker with some of the moodier autumnal palette through accessories. Pair a lighter summery outfit with some darker, chunkier jewelry. Remember, summer isn’t quite over yet. Relish in the final moments of not knowing where the day or night might take you but still feeling excited for wherever it does. & apply that free spirited feeling to your outfits. Perhaps with a wild animal print? While animal print of course is a year round stylistic staple, bringing it into prefall outfits marries the more subdued neutral energy of fall with the wild and free feeling of summer. my fav adidas tokyos in zebra print At the end of the day, taking time to evaluate what really spoke to you from a fashion perspective this summer and bringing those elements into your wardrobe for prefall and onward allows you to take inventory of what really inspires you and truly cultivate your personal style and brand. It can be so easy to get caught in trend cycles and wear what everyone else is wearing because it looks good, but true sense of style and self comes from looking inward at what made you feel the best and pulling that into your every day. SO enjoy this gorgeous prefall and all the fun outfits that come with it.
